Rockford T-Bone Accident

A “side swipe” or “t-bone” accident can occur as a result of numerous traffic violations being committed by an offending driver. Running a yellow or red light, or disobeying a stop sign can result in this type of an accident. With distracted driving due to cell phone use, dealing with children in the back seat, confusion due to GPS device reliance, or simply going too fast to stop before entering an intersection against a light or blowing through the stop sign, accidents can and do happen.

Injuries from such collisions can range from relatively mild bumps and bruises, to soft tissue pains that can be treated relatively easily through chiropractic care or from seeing your primary care physician.

However in some t-bone accidents the injuries can be quite severe, ranging from severe head and neck trauma, to shoulder injuries from a seat belt restraint. Likewise, rollover accidents can occur from these types of events, and, of course, the risk for great bodily harm and even death is possible depending on the surrounding circumstances of the accident.

Illinois Time Limits on Filing Suit

Illinois sets a time limit of two years to file a personal injury lawsuit in the state’s civil court system. In most cases, this two-year time limit, known as a “statute of limitations,” begins to run on the date of the accident. Sometimes, however, a statute of limitations might run from the date that you discovered you were injured, rather than the date of the event that injured you. This later date is known as a “discovery date.”

For injury claims against a city or county, you have one year to file a lawsuit. The time limit to sue the state is generally two years, but you must file a formal claim within one year in order to sue.

A qualified personal injury attorney can help guide you through this difficult time and alleviate some of the stress.
